What is Viac Invest?

Viac Invest is the new Asset management function from Viac.

You probably know Viac as a securities solution for pillar 3a. Instead of parking your pension assets in a savings account with an interest rate of less than 1%, you have been able to invest your pension assets there for years. Build up pension assets with shares.

Viac has since expanded its offering and has now launched a new "Invest" product.

The way it works is exactly the same as with pillar 3a. Based on your risk appetite, you can choose a Strategy that lead to a certain percentage from shares exists. The greater your risk appetite, the higher the proportion of equities. This increases the potential return, but also the risk.

Savings and withdrawal plan

To make your Wealth accumulation Viac recommends that you set up a savings plan. You can set up a standing order with your bank and pay in a certain amount every month, for example.

You can use the savings plan calculator to work out how much you will have saved in 10, 20 or 30 years.

At a later date, you can also purchase a Withdrawal plan set up a pension plan. This allows you to receive a monthly pension or additional income.
In practice: If you have withdrawn your pension fund assets as a lump sum, for example, you can invest them via Viac Invest and then have them paid out later as a monthly pension.

This is particularly exciting if you have paid in over many years and only have to pay out part of the expected return. For example, if you have saved CHF 1,000,000 after 30 years and only pay out CHF 30,000 a year, you will benefit from additional returns even with average performance. This means you can withdraw money and your assets can continue to work on the stock market.

Important note on hidden costs:

Depending on the fund, redemption fees are charged for strategy changes or withdrawals. While most VIAC funds have moderate fees of 0.025-0.14%, the Emerging Markets fund has a redemption fee of up to 1.25%. These fees are not prominently mentioned when advertising the total costs. If you plan to switch funds frequently, you should take this into account.

Viac Invest fees

Viac Invest offers a Flat fee to. Depending on the strategy, this is generally between 0.45 and 0.52%. This includes all custody account fees, brokerage fees, product fees, foreign currency costs and stamp duty and VAT costs.

It also includes an asset management fee of 0.25%. However, Viac will waive this fee until 31 December 2025, so you will save around 50% in fees when you invest in the first year.

Note additional tax costs:

As VIAC only uses Swiss funds, US dividends are subject to 30% withholding tax (instead of 15% for Irish ETFs). This effectively means 0.12% higher annual costs, which are not visible in the advertised fees. In addition, no reclaim via DA-1 is possible, as is the case with Finpension offers.

You can find other, sometimes even cheaper digital asset managers in the Robo-Advisor comparison listed.
